Her passion for mental health developed through years of bedside nursing, where she consistently observed the significant role psychiatric conditions played in patients’ recovery, engagement in care, and long-term functioning. These experiences reinforced her belief that mental health care is a foundational component of overall health, not a secondary consideration.
She began her academic journey at the University of Windsor, earning an associate degree in psychology, and later completed a business degree at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. She went on to establish and operate a personal training and wellness business in Hawaii, where she developed a holistic understanding of health and wellness. Motivated to expand her impact, Tanya pursued nursing education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, and entered inpatient acute care practice.
After eight years of inpatient nursing, Tanya returned to graduate school to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health—a decision that was both professionally and personally meaningful, allowing her to more fully address the mental health needs she encountered throughout her career.
In her current practice, Tanya provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based medication management for children, adolescents, and adults. She is deeply committed to individualized, patient-centered care and creates a supportive, non-judgmental environment where patients feel heard and respected.

He has received numerous awards for quality improvements and has been named as HOUR Magazine’s Top Doctors in Metro Detroit. Dr. Lagrou currently serves as the State Surgeon for Michigan Army National Guard.
